OSHA heat NEP

The OSHA Heat National Emphasis Program is an enforcement and outreach effort aimed at heat hazards in high-risk industries. OSHA revised it on April 10, 2026.

The Heat National Emphasis Program (NEP) tells OSHA where to focus heat inspections and outreach. OSHA revised it on April 10, 2026. It uses OSHA and Bureau of Labor Statistics data from 2022 to 2025 to point inspections at 55 high-risk industries, indoor and outdoor.

On days when the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory or warning, compliance officers will conduct random inspections focused on heat hazards in those industries. The revision took effect immediately and lasts five years. The NEP is not a heat standard. OSHA still cites heat hazards under the General Duty Clause. The proposed OSHA heat rule is separate. See OSHA heat rules. This is not legal advice.
