Hydration science
Hydration
Hydration is keeping enough fluid and electrolytes in the body to work well. For crews in the heat, it means steady drinking all shift, not only when thirsty.
Hydration means the body has enough fluid to work properly. On a hot jobsite, sweat pulls fluid and salts out fast. Crews need to replace both. NIOSH says employers should provide the means for appropriate hydration of workers, and workers should drink an appropriate amount to stay hydrated.
Good hydration is a habit, not a single drink. Water first, within reach of the crew. When sweating lasts for hours, add electrolytes. Poor hydration leads to dehydration, which adds to heat stress. Build the habit into your jobsite hydration plan. Rapid Restoration Drops are a dietary supplement that replaces electrolytes lost in sweat and supports hydration.
